Adam Minihan – David Niles2019-09-01T15:39:55-04:00

We are on the Lord’s team. The winning side. So raise your glass! Cheers to Jesus!
The Catholic Man Show started in May of 2016 when Adam Minihan and David Niles realized, after running a Catholic radio station in Tulsa, the need for Catholic radio programs for men.
Real, relatable, and often comical, Adam and David have a conversation promoting the lost art of living virtuously. Every episode is broken up into 3 parts.

  • A Manly Drink – We open, review, and enjoy a manly beverage on air while promoting the virtue of moderation and enjoying the finer things in life that our Lord has given to us.
  • A Manly Gear – We highlight a specific gear that every man should own and how it applies to living a Catholic life in this world.
  • A Manly Topic – Deemed (by us) as “the manliest conversation you will ever hear.” We talk about different topics related to the Catholic man.

About our topic:

CCC 828:

By canonizing some of the faithful, i.e., by solemnly proclaiming that they practiced heroic virtue and lived in fidelity to God’s grace, the Church recognizes the power of the Spirit of holiness within her and sustains the hope of believers by proposing the saints to them as models and intercessors. “The saints have always been the source and origin of renewal in the most difficult moments in the Church’s history.” Indeed, “holiness is the hidden source and infallible measure of her apostolic activity and missionary zeal.”

And CCC 829 brings it home:

“But while in the most Blessed Virgin the Church has already reached that perfection whereby she exists without spot or wrinkle, the faithful still strive to conquer sin and increase in holiness. And so they turn their eyes to Mary”:306 in her, the Church is already the “all-holy.”

About our drink:

Spey Trutina – A single malt scotch whisky. A well-balanced single malt from the SPEY range released in late 2016 (alongside their first peated whisky – Fumare) matured in bourbon casks. The name comes from a Latin way of expressing balance, and the whisky certainly falls in line with that idea. A release of 18,000 bottles.

About the gear:

About our topic:

The 7 Liberal Arts. Liberal arts, college or university curriculum aimed at imparting general knowledge and developing general intellectual capacities in contrast to a professional, vocational, or technical curriculum. In the medieval European university the seven liberal arts were grammarrhetoric, and logic (the trivium) and geometryarithmeticmusic, and astronomy (the quadrivium). In modern colleges and universities, the liberal arts include the study of literature, languages, philosophyhistorymathematics, and science as the basis of a general, or liberal, education. Sometimes the liberal-arts curriculum is described as comprehending study of three main branches of knowledge: the humanities (literature, language, philosophy, the fine arts, and history), the physical and biological sciences and mathematics, and the social sciences.

About our guests:

Andrew Pudewa is the director of the Institute for Excellence in Writing and a father of seven. Traveling and speaking around the world, he addresses issues related to teaching, writing, thinking, spelling, and music with clarity, insight, practical experience, and humor. His seminars for parents, students, and teachers have helped transform many a reluctant writer and have equipped educators with powerful tools to dramatically improve students’ skills.

Although he is a graduate of the Talent Education Institute in Japan and holds a Certificate of Child Brain Development from the Institutes for the Achievement of Human Potential in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, his best endorsement is from a young Alaskan boy who called him “the funny man with the wonderful words.” He and his wonderful, heroic wife, Robin, have homeschooled their seven children and are now proud grandparents of eleven, making their home in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

About our drink:

Herradura Reposado Tequila. We want to thank the parishioner who kindly donated this bottle of tequila for TCMS. This tequila is double rested for unmatched taste. Herradura Double Barrel Reposado is the product of a novel, two-step aging process. The first involves resting the tequila in charred American White Oak barrels for 11 months. It’s then moved to new charred barrels and aged for an additional 30 days. This creates a rich, dark amber colored liquid and a smooth yet complex flavor profile not found in any other Reposado, with hints of cooked agave, vanilla, allspice, clove, and oak.

About the gear:

We had the assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach for OSU with us! Come on, we wanted to pick his brain on working out so our gear this week is a gym membership and/or a workout buddy.

About our topic:

What should you do (and not do) when your wife is ready to enter the Right of Christian Initiation for Adults? What if she isn’t sure if she is ready? As a husband, what are the best ways to walk with her through the process? We discuss this and a lot more in this episode.

About our guests:

Father Brian O’Brien is a priest of the Diocese of Tulsa and Eastern Oklahoma and pastor of St. Francis Xavier Parish in Stillwater Oklahoma. He is a Houston, TX native and graduate of Boston College, The Alliance for Catholic Education at Notre Dame, and Saint Meinrad Seminary and school of theology in southern Indiana.

Coach Gary Calcagno is the assistant strength and conditioning coach at Oklahoma State University focusing on OSU Football and OSU Wrestling programs. In 2008, he was named Master Strength and Conditioning Coach by the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association. This is the highest given in the strength and conditioning coaching profession. He is personally responsible for every aspect of strength and conditioning for Oklahoma State Wrestling. Before coming to OSU, Gary spent 6 seasons at Washington State University as the Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach.
