“Salt and Light” podcast: Who we are and Why we do what we do!

Our goal is to NEVER be boring and ALWAYS leave you with something you didn’t know before through Scriptural references, Latin, Greek, and Hebrew translations that illuminate the deeper meanings contained in God’s Word, Catholic teaching from the Catechism and other Encyclicals, writings from the Saints, and much more….. and also make you laugh along the way. So pour some bourbon, make a cup of coffee, or whatever floats your boat, and check out Chuck and Annie Fulkerson!
Who are Chuck and Annie?
Chuck is the President and Founder of IIE Financial (podcast also on BreadBox and more info at www.iiefinancial.com), a uniquely Catholic Christian financial advisor and investment strategist based on Houston, Texas. Chuck and Annie have structured the firm to serve clients according to St. Thomas Aquinas’ definition for “Love”- Willing the good of another. He is a dynamic speaker and presenter and has delivered content to thousands of traders and investors all over the globe in his various roles in business over the last ten years. He has a great passion for helping others realize their dreams, and he has a true servant’s heart with a well defined ability for relating to others. As a Knight of Columbus, he’s always the first to volunteer and the last to ask for any credit. Annie often refers to him tongue-and-cheek as “Midas”, because so often in business and personal endeavors, when anyone hands any situation to Chuck, he has a unique ability to turn a dismal situation into not only a good one but one that continues to bear fruit. When weighing the three transcendentals- True, Good, and Beautiful- Chuck has a natural God-given ability to communicate the Good and Beautiful to others glorifying God by his life. (Obviously, Annie wrote this about Chuck… he’s amazing.)
Annie’s primary vocation is as a home school educator. A decade in the making, Annie worked as a mechanical engineer in the nuclear Navy industry and then in the commercial power industry as God groomed her. She began homeschooling their two young boys when they began preschool. Her days are consumed with educating the boys in the Catholic Faith- Scripture and Tradition, grammar, mathematics, science, history, english, classical literature, geography, Latin, Spanish, and more. Her nights are another story! Annie is a voracious reader, specifically in the non-fiction genres. Chuck often finds books stashed in the most unlikely cupboards in their house! Her passion for learning has led her to advance her formal education in Theology, Philosophy, Church History, and Apologetics through the new St. Thomas Institute. She felt that such a great passion could not have been placed on her heart for selfish reasons, and so she now conducts Catholic Apologetics classes in person and live online and delivers talks to various groups on topics ranging from the Real Presence in the Eucharist to True Feminine Authority in the Church.
Chuck and Annie Fulkerson welcome you to be Salt and Light, glorifying the Lord by your life!

On the Fulkerson’s 3-week 13-state road trip, there was one common theme, and they need to share it with all of you. Why? Because it directly affects each and every one of you, and it’s the one thing that St Lucia shared from the Blessed Mother’s message during the apparitions at Fatima 101 years ago. On a recent family road trip, we explored Mammoth Cave, camped in the National Park, hiked the beautiful Kentucky trails, and visited the Ark Encounter , a life-size reconstruction of Noah’s Ark according to the Biblical dimensions. Within it, we walked through three floors of exhibits depicting what life might have been like for both Noah and his family and also the animals. The life-size animals that were modeled in the exhibits were largely unrecognizable, though, because they were mostly comprised of dinosaurs. The tour continues with exhibits describing science and technology as anti-intelligence and refuting many branches of science and its discoveries, including geology, hydrology, botany, paleontology, archeology, and more. We’ve done episodes before on the relationship between faith and reason and religion and science and the wonderful “both/and” of Catholicism, but in this episode we focus on how we should interpret Scripture. How should we read and understand it? What does the Church say? Find out in this episode. In last week’s episode, we discussed many topics with respect to evangelization and the great intellectual tradition of the Church with our guest, Bishop Robert Barron. In the wake of that interview, we received a great amount of feedback wanting to know more about some of the topics Bishop Barron addressed. In this episode, we address Bishop Barron’s assessment that after Vatican II anti-intellectualism crept into religious culture and explain eccumenical councils especially Vatican II in much more detail to provide the cultural and historical backdrop for the largest meeting of all time, what made it different, what it actually intended and declared, and why it has been unjustly blamed for so much confusion over the last fifty years. Tune in to this episode where we set the record straight on Vatican II. (The title of this episode is a play on St. Thomas Aquinas’ Summa Theologiae.) To celebrate the 1-year anniversary of the Salt and Light podcast, we are graciously joined by the great Bishop Robert Barron! Chuck and Annie had the honor to skype with Bishop Barron to discuss a variety of topics related to evangelization as both a receiver and a preacher of the Good News, including statistics of the “nones”, “allergies” towards definitive statements about God, why post-modern people are ill-equipped to conduct fruitful argumentsespecially about God, and what both clergy and laity can learn from the Acts of the Apostles to bring forth the enthusiastic and efficacious Gospel message. Finally, Bishop Barron shares his vision for Word on Fire! To learn more about Bishop Barron and Word on Fire, visit www.wordonfire.org. For the first time on the Salt and Light podcast, Chuck and Annie answer questions recorded and submitted by a 7-year old listener of the show. They do their very best to answer Noah’s very insightful, very deep, very theological questions. Chuck and Annie invite you to listen, and pause the audio after Noah asks his questions to think how you would answer this bright young boy. Noah presented a total of six questions. In this second part of the two-part show, they will answer his second three questions. To listen to the first three questions, check out Episode048 of the Salt and Light podcast. Question 4: Why do we have guardian angels? Are we suppose to talk to them? Are they always at our side? Do they take trips back to heaven? Question 5: Why did Judas betray Jesus? Question 6: How do you know if you’re suppose to become a priest or get married someday?
